TRENTON, NJ – Under current law, it is not illegal to film others without their knowledge. As a result, those charged with surreptitious videotaping can only be prosecuted for less serious offenses, such as trespassing.
“This bill brings antiquated voyeurism laws into modern day so that individuals who are filmed without their permission in dressing rooms, in tanning salons and even in the privacy of their own bedrooms can finally seek the justice they deserve,” said sponsor Sen. Barbara Buono, D-Middlesex.
