To capitalize on this trend, a handful of major adult companies sprung up in Miami, taking advantage of the endless supply of scantily clad models, sunny weather, and stylish locations. Major porn networks like Reality Kings, Brazzers, and Bang Bros shoot all over Dade County, relying almost exclusively on guerrilla-style content that is produced fast and efficiently.

These sites all have numerous subsites that feature specific types of content or gimmicks. The most memorable of these is BangBros’s BangBus in which the camera crew picks up “random” women around Miami then has sex with them in a van as the driver tours the city. While the majority of these clips are filmed inside, many take advantage of the Miami sunlight and feature scenes in public-ish settings—backyard pools, tennis courts, condo balconies… I even saw one where two pornstars had sex on the walkway over a busy highway.

While these shoots have been happening for years, a recent video has raised some objections from Miami officials. A brand in the Reality Kings’ network, Captain Stabbin, is catching flack after it posted a sex scene filmed on a boat with the 110-foot Flagler Memorial on Monument Island towering in the background.

I haven’t seen the 50 minute video but I did see a series of timed screen shots and I’m familiar enough with Captain Stabbin’s gimmick to know what happens. Redheaded starlet Brooklyn Lee leaves the marina on a motorboat with the male actor JMac and friends. Sex ensues as the boat travels to Monument Island where Lee is marooned.

Undoubtedly Miami officials could prosecute the film’s producers on a number of technicalities, but other than the monument in the background, the video is no different than hundreds of other clips.

The Reality Kings’ lawyer claims that even though exposing yourself in public is illegal, the law only applies if someone witnesses the act. No one complained about the shoot while it was happening and the crew claims no one else was around the island during filming.

Technically any for-profit production filmed in the city needs a permit, but porn scenes and other audio visual productions are constantly being shot in the city without permits. And while perhaps the most notorious, Captain Stabbin isn’t the only dirty old man who parades boatloads of topless models around Miami waters, nor is he the first to have sex with them on deck. In fact, each month a convoy of yachts tie-up off of Miami to form a “totally naked swingers regatta.”

The real issue is that Captain Stabbin posted his exploits on the internet days after city officials discussed ways to end the illegal drinking and parties that have become common on Monument Island. Tax payers recently forked over $1 million to restore the island’s memorial in 2009, and I doubt city officials, or Miami residents lacking boats, enjoy seeing a high dollar public park turned into an adult theme park.
