from www.commercialappeal.com – Memphis police on Tuesday arrested a 50-year-old woman, who is a Memphis City Schools teacher, accused of having a sexual relationship in her private life with an underage boy.

Police charged Ruth B. Shrader, of Memphis, with statutory rape by an authority figure. Shrader was released from Shelby County’s Jail East on $10,000 bond.

In a court affidavit, sex crimes investigators contend that for two years beginning when the boy was 15, Shrader had consensual sex with the teenager. The relationship started when she gave him massages. She provided gifts and money and sent sexually-oriented text messages, according to the court document.

The authority that Shrader allegedly wielded involved roles as a godmother and the former acting assistant pastor of a church, according to the affidavit.

Shrader is listed as a Memphis City Schools special education teacher earning about $57,000 a year. She is assigned to A.B. Hill Elementary, but she is on unpaid leave until this matter is resolved, said Quintin Taylor, Memphis City Schools spokesman.
