EvolutionErotica. D. Guy Capo. Felicia Fox, Selena Silver, Allysin Chaines, Pason, Ciera Sage, Katie Morgan, Brooke, Katrina Kraven, Tony Tedeschi, Tony Sexton, Dick Smothers Jr. Dick Nasty, Maxamian Nye.
If Keith Richards partied as the depictions in Guy Capo’s [evolutionerotica.com] latest movie about life in the music fast lane – showing drugs being consumed like Halloween candy at Rush Limbaugh’s – he’d pass for 90 instead of 80. In what one has to assume is a bit of a homage to Spinal Tap, Capo takes a darkly resonating docu-flavored tour into the souls of self-absorbed rock performers and their hedonistic groupies [Felicia Fox playing one- now there’s a stretch].
And the results, overall, are astonishingly brilliant when you consider that this is a porn movie. That Capo can take porn to dizzying heights has already been established in American Gunk. Here it’s off the charts. Sex, Drugs and Rock-N-Roll is a monumental achievement on so many different levels.
Herein, Capo manages a mainstream feel 100% of the moment with a humorously delivered script gleaming with nuggets of realism, on-the-mark casting, solid music; and phenomenal camera work/editing as well as set selection. As a cold-blooded band of narcissists who pick up women and treat them like rumpus room accessories, disposable as old pool chalk, you couldn’t lab-produce a better chemistry than Dick Smothers, Jr., Tony Sexton, Tony Tedeschi and Maxamian Nye.
As a prick, no one plays a better part than Tedeschi whose smart ass response to a press inquiry about a female state trooper says it all for his character. But that assignment is evenly distributed throughout this film and includes imperious tour manager Dick Nasty who takes some pretty amazing power trips, being the guy who controls both backstage press and female access to his boys. In one exchange, Nye asks Nasty where breakfast is, and Nasty explains that Peruvian drugs take a long time to deliver.
But between Tedeschi and Sexton there’d be a pretty good battle for a best acting nod while Maxamian Nye, as the obvious senior statesman of the group, gets lines of enriched bullshit to die for. Speaking of lines, Smothers, who’s got the Grim Reaper written all over him from the get-go, is a positive riot, spending most of the film face down in a pile of drugs, then the rest of it face up in an open casket. Two groupies, Katrina Kraven and Brooke are told by Nasty that they can’t fuck their way into Smothers’ funeral. He’s told that they did, actually, which allows them to get past the guards at the outer gate in the first place. Kraven whose looks and tattoos rival Vandalia’s, is fucked over the casket and Brooke’s body is also pretty well worked over in a cast participation scene.
In another scenario, the band’s tour bus, on the road to Phoenix, is boarded by star fuckers Ciera Sage and Katie Morgan. Earlier on, Selena Silver, definitely the starlet to watch this year, is fucked royally up and over in the ass by Tedeschi in a very nasty bathroom tryst, which, all things considered, is probably the best sex scene in the film. Though both Allysin Chaines and Pason have something to say about that when they pair off with Sexton [his pile driver on Chaines is magnificent] and Tedeschi/Smothers respectively in aforesaid rec room.
If you’ve been put off by vague and dismal attempts in the past to merge porn with the rock-n-roll genre, Capo finally squares it with the viewer. And it’s been a long time coming.
