HOOVER, Ala. – Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama, looks a lot like Rock ‘N’ Roll High this fall, with a football team performing for M-T-V’s cameras and a nationally televised game on E-S-P-N this weekend.
But parents and school leaders just said no when they found out a post-game concert would feature a San Diego band that features sexually explicit lyrics in its songs and nearly nude women on its C-D covers.
Reacting to parents’ complaints, school officials pulled the plug on the band called Louis (LOO’-ee) the 14th that was scheduled to give a free concert after the Buccaneers’ nationally televised football game on E-S-P-N this past weekend.
The school lobbied the concert’s corporate sponsor, Old Spice, to cancel the appearance of the band after parents objected.
The band’s lyrics include explicit references to sex, and some of its songs talk about murder and suicide. The cover of its album “The Best Little Secrets Are Kept” shows a woman who appears to be nude photographed from the back, and another of its covers shows a bare-breasted woman.
