UK- A sex film producer was spared jail today for pouring a kettle of boiling water over his porn star wife.

James Edwards, 38, admitted unintentionally causing Gemma Johnson, 21, grievous bodily harm after she threatened to leave him in August 2003, Bristol Crown Court heard.

After hearing how Edwards suffers with spina bifida, Judge Carol Hagen imposed a 12 month jail sentence which she suspended for a period of two years.

This was two days after Edwards’s estranged wife was cleared by a jury of aiding and abetting his suicide attempt in December 2003 by allegedly feeding him paracetamol tablets and making a noose for him to hang himself.

Gemma Johnson, 21, was accused of feeding James Edwards, 38, paracetamol tablets and making him a hanging noose because she wanted his money.

Mr Edwards, from Bristol, who has spina bifida, tried to take a fatal overdose, Bristol Crown Court had heard.

Ms Johnson denied aiding and abetting the suicide attempt in December 2003 and was found not guilty by a jury at the court on Tuesday.

It was alleged that Ms Johnson had forced Mr Edwards to make a will a month before he attempted suicide.

The couple, who had married in February 2003, split up in August when their relationship became violent.

According to the will, she would inherit £80,000 cash, Edwards’s home in Bradley Stoke, Bristol. which was worth £300,000, and his two life insurance policies worth up to £400,000 in total.

Mr Edwards, who directed films and appeared with Ms Johnson, told the jury he had wanted to die because he still loved her and wanted to make her happy.

Ms Johnson declined to comment as she left the court with friends.
