Unbelievable that this case has gone to trial….
from www.philly.com – The much-publicized sex-for-World Series case is scheduled to begin with jury selection this morning.
Bensalem police arrested West Philadelphia’s Susan Finkelstein in October 2008 after an undercover officer met her in a bar and discussed a Craigslist ad in which she called herself a “Diehard Phillies fan – gorgeous tall buxom blonde – in desperate need of two World Series tickets.”
“I’m the creative type! Maybe we can help each other!” it continued.
She was originally charged with promoting prostitution, but prosecutors withdrew that in favor of two lesser charges: prostitution and criminal attempt.
Today’s proceedings were scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown, but Inquirer reporter Larry King says they’re getting off to a slow start.
“It will begin with jury selection,” she writes on her Facebook page. “Character witnesses will be called (others present but not testifying) on Thurs, between 9 & 12.”
Bensalem police say that Finkelstein sent topless pictures when they responded to her ad, then, during the meeting with Officer Michael Brady, called herself a prostitute, exposed herself and discussed exchanging sex for tickets to see the Phillies play the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series.
Finkelstein contends she was just playing around, hoping for a better deal.
The ad did not specifically mention sex.
Finkelstein did attend the World Series, thanks to free tickets from two radio stations.
