Scottsdale, Az- Lisa Borowsky, the sister of Skin Cabaret owner Todd Borowsky, has declared herself a candidate for the Scottsdale City Council.
The 42-year-old attorney said her brother’s struggle with the city over a restrictive sexually oriented businesses ordinance led her to become involved in city politics.
Borowsky helped collect signatures for a 2006 referendum that overturned the law.
“It was very intriguing,” she said of the effort. “It was a great opportunity to meet voters and discuss the issues.”
Borowsky’s brother owns one of Scottsdale’s two strip clubs. The other, Babe’s Cabaret, is owned in part by porn star Jenna Jameson.
Lisa Borowsky, whose practice focuses on construction defect law, has lobbied for the rights of homeowners associations at the Legislature.
A lifelong Scottsdale resident, Borowsky said she is studying the issues that will face candidates vying for three council seats next Sept. 2.
She said she is concerned that Scottsdale is losing its tourism edge. “I think that in Scottsdale, over the last 5 to 7 years, we’re losing our uniqueness.”
