Florida- The Smut Dr’s internet radio show www.adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=9622 is going where Howard Stern can’t go. If you check out the show you will see that this show is hosted by Dr. Johnny and his cohort Platypus. I was emailed about this show last week and I ventured onto their site to see what the buzz was about. I learned that these two guys are taking the Howard Stern radio show format to the next level. It is a fun, very provocative and a highly entertaining show. Without any regulation from the FCC, the Smut Dr’s can go where no radio show has yet to go. You must remember this is entertainment and you can’t take this too seriously. You may be shocked, but if you want put a smile on face then tune in.
Their show hits upon many topics and offers some good sex advice to people of all ages. Perhaps these listeners would be afraid or embarrassed to ask a friend, but you can get honest advice from the Smut Dr’s.
Here is the intriguing and informative interview I did with Dr. Johnny. I am confident that with the growth of internet radio, we will all be hearing more from the Smut Dr’s in the coming future.
Amanda: Dr Johnny, how did you get your start in this industry?
Dr. Johnny: I started DJ’ing in strip clubs at the age of 19. I had an instant knack for gab on the microphone and some weird ability to get girls to do crazy things on stage. Years later, the program director of a very popular radio station in Miami came into a club I was working at and after listening to me, asked me if I would ever consider doing a show on the radio. But I was earning great money as a DJ. Yet, years later I started my own show on the internet; “Smut Dr’s” and here I am.
Amanda: Why is your show so unique?
Dr. Johnny: I would say our show is so unique because of the personalities of Platypus (my sidekick) and I. A lot of our listeners live vicariously through us. We do wild and crazy things on the air and even wilder things off the air. The fans of our show seem to be as fascinated by our lifestyles as they are by our personalities.
Amanda: Who are your listeners?
Dr. Johnny: We have approximately 30,000 listeners every week and we gear our show as a “guy” show. In the beginning our demographic were mostly 18-35 year old men, but lately we have picked many female listeners in the same age group. I’d like to think it’s because we are cute guys, but I think they listen just to get a laugh or two.
Amanda: How long have you been on the internet?
Dr. Johnny: This year will be our 4th anniversary of doing the show on line. Maybe we will get a cake and some balloons!
Amanda: Do you feel you are breaking new ground?
Dr. Johnny: Absolutely! Since the beginning of radio and then television the FCC has ruled with an iron fist. They have decided what we watch and listen to and what time we are allowed to do it. The FCC has no such jurisdiction here on the net. If I want to talk about sex, I talk about sex. We are in the Wild West on the net. Our show is like no other you have ever heard before. I guess that’s why we get the attention we do.
Amanda: Do you go farther than Howard Stern?
Dr. Johnny: No doubt. Again the FCC is his worst enemy. A lot of people in the industry have been against him for the longest time citing his style of radio as over to top. They say the same thing about us. I keep hearing we take the easy way out with our style of show. But entertaining an audience for hours is not an easy task.
Amanda: Can you compete against Howard when he goes to Sirius?
Dr. Johnny: In the medium we have now, probably not. On the internet we have some advantages like the fact hat people can not only listen to our show but they can watch it (as well as long as they have DSL or Cable modems). The problem for us is that we are limited to who listens to our show based on who knows how to tune into internet radio.
Given the same medium to compete with Howard, I think we would shake his foundations. He’s never gone against anyone like us and he’s never gone against anyone like me. I respect what he does but a lot of that persona he gives us is for the show. I’m the real deal.
Amanda: What kind of guests do you have on the show?
Dr. Johnny: We have had comedians, bands, musicians, porn stars, Penthouse Pets, and about 1,000 different strippers on the show. As much as we like to try to get real celebrities on the show, people love it when we bring on the women we have as guests.
Amanda: How many shows do you do a week?
Dr. Johnny: We do one show a week right now but we move back to a 5 day format soon.
Amanda: Where do you record from?
Dr. Johnny: We have our own radio station in Miami Florida
Amanda: What are your goals of the show?
Dr. Johnny: Platypus and I both hope for mainstream notoriety. We are good at what we do. Listen to our show once and I guarantee you will listen again; we make you think, we make you laugh and we provide our loyal listeners with advice that they can use in the never ending battle of the sexes. We are entertainers and hopefully when the right situation comes up and we can broaden our audience, we can be the guys who can help you forget about your life for an hour or two.
Amanda: Do you plan on taking this to cable television or satellite radio?
Dr. Johnny: Of course. We are tailor made for a cable television show.
Amanda: What kind of ‘sex’ advice do you give your listeners?
Dr. Johnny: We have a segment on the show that is called, DEAR JOHN. People write in and ask everything from “How do I ask a girl out” to sex advice questions.
Amanda: Are your shows available to view on DVD?
Dr. Johnny: Yes, our shows are going to be made available on DVD? We get a lot of requests for the shows in DVD format so we just starting filming them on DV cameras so we can put them out on DVD. I also just finished filming my new video series, “The Adventures of Dr Johnny.”
I just take a video camera crew with me to places like South Beach and New Orleans and see what I can make people do on camera.
Amanda: Thank you for this interview and I am confident there is a large audience who will tune in to your show to be entertained and have fun!
