Porn Valley- Suppose a rally was being held in your honor and you didn’t even know about it. Today KLSX radio 97.1 in Los Angeles is holding a rally to support Howard Stern’s fight against the FCC. Except Stern didn’t even know about it, and the National Enquirer’s Mike Walker had to inform him that the KLSX affiliate was holding the rally in front of the Federal building.
“It’s a very big and very well organized event,” Walker said. “KLSX has done a lot of work to organize this thing for you.” Except all of it was news to Stern. Nevertheless, Stern said it was very nice of them and it couldn’t be on a better day. “The government just came down with fines against me.”
Walker suggested that a smaller fine of $27,500 was levied against Stern now to get it done and over with, lest a groundswell subsequently gets the Republicans booted out of office. Stern said the new fine is for a three year-old incident. “It has nothing to do with the new rules. They’re coming out with new rules every day. They’re coming up with a new sensibility every day. So they went back three years ago, found a complaint, trumped one up against me and hit me with a fine.” Stern predicted that as soon as the Senate passes the Indecency bill, he’ll be hit with a new round of fines. “The timing of this is, rather than hit me with the massive fines, they’d do this to look like they’re doing something.”
For the record, Stern said he’s been given notices of apparent liability in the past but has never paid a fine. “Nor will I ever. The fact of the matter is, this three year old complaint- they haven’t had a complaint from me for ten years. But this is all a result of Janet Jackson and an election year. And they’re using this. They thought this would be a good political issue- keep everyone distracted from the disaster that’s going in the Bush administation.”
It’s Walker’s contention that none of this would have happened had Michael Powell been a white man. “Had he been a white man, there would have been an outcry, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson would have been right there saying this is a white man picking on a sister.”
