from www.dnews.com – The rape conviction of porn star Christopher Reid, also known as “Jack Venice,” was upheld today in the State of Washington Court of Appeals in Spokane.
Reid, 28, was convicted of second degree rape Oct. 24, 2008, after he broke into the Washington State University Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and sexually assaulted a sleeping 21-year-old woman.
Reid was accompanied by Kyle M. Schott during the rape and during a string a break-ins at WSU sororities in September 2007. Schott testified against Reid during Reid’s 2008 trial. Reid was sentenced to a minimum of nine years and a maximum of life imprisonment in 2008.
Back story from March 18, 2010: A self-proclaimed porn star convicted of raping a WSU student in a sorority house wants a new trial.
Christopher Reid goes by the stage name Jack Venice, and was convicted of rape two years ago. He was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Reid believes he’s innocent and blames his trial lawyer for losing the case. Now Reid has a new attorney, who went before a Spokane appellate judge panel Wednesday. The new lawyer claimed Reid’s trial lawyer was ineffective and made critical mistakes that resulted in conviction.
Reid’s new lawyer refused to speak to KREM 2 News, but appealed the conviction on the basis that:
* Reid’s trial lawyer should have challenged an allegedly biased juror from making the pool
* the trial lawyer shouldn’t have included a photo lineup as evidence
* the trial lawyer shouldn’t have included DNA evidence from a condom recovered from the scene
A panel of three judges who heard Wednesday’s appeal will issue a written ruling in one to six months.
