Porn Valley- Part of the message conveyed by this site is about suckers biting the dust. And we saw the ultimate sucker tale which we’d like to share with you. It’s about a guy in New York who proposed marriage…the classic sucker story with a twist if you’ll pardon the pun.
New York- This martini had more than just an olive in it.
A Westchester County man last night plunked down $13,000 for a marriage martini with a diamond ring at the bottom – and got the right answer from the love of his life.
“Oh, my God!” gasped Melissa Beck, as Joe Imperato took a knee and asked her to marry him. “Yes! Omigod!”
The after-work crowd at the Algonquin Hotel’s Blue Bar burst into applause as the couple hugged, kissed and took celebratory sips of the stiff drink with a stiffer price.
“She always said she wanted it to be a big event,” Imperato said. “She didn’t want it to be the two of us at dinner.”
Imperato, 28, opted for the high-priced proposal after reading about the Algonquin’s new “Martini on the Rock” last week in the Daily News.
“I love martinis,” he said. “It just felt like a good idea.”
The super-expensive drink comes with a single piece of ice, a diamond from the in-house jeweler. The only catch is that the order needs to be lined up three days in advance with Bader & Garrin, the hotel’s jeweler.
Imperato picked out a 1.85-carat square diamond there, then told his girlfriend of nine months they had tickets to a Broadway show for last night.
But first, he said, they absolutely had to stop off for a pre-theater drink after driving in from Larchmont.
With the couple’s song – Stevie Nicks’ “Leather and Lace” – playing in the background, Imperato was shaking while waiting for the martini and a glass of red wine to arrive.
“I said to him, ‘Do you hear our song?'” Beck said. “And he just said, ‘What song?'”
As the drinks arrived, Beck, 28, still had no clue what was coming – even as television and camera crews slowly moved in to capture the magic moment.
“I didn’t think anything of it,” Beck said.
Then, using the sword carrying the drink’s trademark olives, Imperato fished out the platinum ring as tears of joy welled up in Beck’s eyes.
“I told her I loved her,” said Imperato, who met his future wife at a White Plains bar.
Beck, who ordered a glass of red wine, said she is not particularly big on martinis – but she was more than willing to savor the drink’s flavor last night.
“This one,” she said, “is going to taste great.”
