Las Vegas – Did you know that the late Linda Lovelace’s daughter nearly followed in mom’s footsteps? Considering what Lovelace was best known for in the movie, Deep Throat, ‘footsteps’ might hardly be the word to use in that context. But circumstances just like the one cited almost lent new meaning to the cliche, like mother, like daughter.
Maybe a year ago, a little longer, Arrow’s Ray Pistol got an e-mail from Lovelace’s daughter Lindsay who at the time was considering getting into the business. It didn’t happen for one reason or another, but that’s one of the interesting blips on the Arrow radar screen in its search for the next Linda Lovelace- a search that has been going on for at least four years and through five sequels to the original film. Arrow and Deep Throat are synonymous entities, with Linda Lovelace the star of a movie that has probably sold at least 3 million copies. Maybe more,, but there’s really no telling how many, according to Pistol, if you take into consideration sales documents seized by the government through the years. As it stands now, Deep Throat averages 3,000 units going out the door every month which means Throat consistently outsells nearly every new adult title on the market. And, last December Arrow issued a re-mastered and re-cut DVD version of the film along with commentary from Eric Edwards. Though Pistol will be the first to tell you that he didn’t exactly shout that promotion to the rafters.
All of this is to say that the search for a new Lovelace has not reached a dead end. In fact, along the way, Pistol was offered a relatively meager deal to sell the Deep Throat name but turned it down realizing that it was less about money and more about franchise, not wishing to see Deep Throat go the way of the commercially-depleted Taboo series. But Pistol feels it’s time to rev up the engines and begin the search anew for the next Linda Lovelace. And, to that extent, there might be some interesting developments to report in the next couple of months
