This time it was Ron Jeremy who had the barbecue. I asked him if it was like at Tim Case’s birthday this summer where KFC gravy was being guzzled by the gallon. Jeremy just gave me a look. The barbecue, in which Jeremy invited a number of porn stars, was held in connection with Jeremy’s appearance on WB’s The Surreal Life 2 where celebrities live together. Jeremy tells me it’s the best mainstream gig he’s ever had.
“It’s gotten me the most fame and work,” he says. “I’ve done a lot of mainstream films, some that were really big. Like Boogie Nights. But this is prime time television and a steady role.” Jeremy said the show is going to be going up against Friends in January.
Jeremy: They’re going to get a lead-in a few weeks before Friends hits the air. We’re hoping that we can build up enough of an audience in January to yank some of the viewers away from Friends which begins in February. But Friends is obviously the king. But if we can take away some of their viewers, that would be great, wouldn’t it? We’re already shot for People, the cover of Variety, CNN, AOL.com. It’s a bizarre cast. It’s me, Tammy Faye Messner and that’s a weird combination; Erik Estrada, Vanilla Ice; from Bay Watch, Tracy Bingham; and from The Real World, Trishelle. I was the roommate of the two girls. It was me and them sharing a bedroom and a bathroom. The concept is that celebrities live together with no TV, no cell phones, no computers.
Gene: That’s impossible for you.
Jeremy: It was murder. And we go on a lot of outings. We do a lot of things outside the house. So we’re not really trapped inside the house which is a giant mansion that used to belong to Glen Campbell. We do a lot of things in the community, reacting with the public, that sort of thing. That’s the basic premise. They even had a mock taping of the Sally Jesse Raphael show inside the house. A lot of bizarre, weird, crazy events took place which, hopefully, should make for good television. I had my turtle with me and she was a big hit. A lot of things happened to her as well. They also had a parrot which never really spoke as much as it was supposed to. It’s being advertised on WB right now.
Gene: Tell me about the barbecue.
Jeremy: While Tammy Faye was away on a book signing, they wanted me to have a Ron Jeremy barbecue. They wanted it to be nice and nasty so the cast could react to it when they came back- either get pissed at me or say that’s his friends, what do you expect. I invited Mary Carey who wasn’t available; Tabitha Stevens showed up. She’s my closest friend in the business. And she brought her friend Tiffany Stevens. I also invited Felicia Fox and Tim Case but they were out of town at the time but thanked me very much for the invite. I invited them, and Vandalia came along. I also invited Lisa Sparxxx who I’ve been friends with a couple of years along with her husband. Jacklyn Lick was also there. I also had Janey from Metro invite a lot of the Metro contract girls, but there were all busy and out of town.
I also invited Sunset Thomas and some of the Bunny Ranch girls, but unfortunately they got stuck in the fire. A lot of people couldn’t make the barbecue. Like Air Force Amy, Sunset and another one of the girls. But they were there for a party at The Rainbow for Halloween. I also invited Carlos who used to be with Shauna McCullough and is now with Darla Crane. Carlos has been one of my best friends the last ten years but he couldn’t make it. We also had some of my friends from the B-movies there. There was some reaction from the cast when they came back but I can’t go into that, There was some nudity in the Jacuzzi. Lisa was. Vandalia was. Tracy Bingham said she was going to go topless if some other girls went topless but she welshed. Vandalia immediately went topless and Tracy goes, oh, ah, I meant if there was more than one. Then Jacklyn Lick went topless. Once again she welshed.
