(BAGHDAD, IRAQ) — It took America a long time to give women of any background, ‘gender equality.’ As Harrison Ford said in the film Air Force One, “that’s called progress.”
Having thrown off the shackles of colonial imperialism, women of the third world are increasingly growing resistant to the cultural imperialism marketed by the West, even in the form of feminism. But, there is still a long way to go before women in Iraq and other Muslim countries, can feel not only equal, but respected in the realm of sex, relationships and their careers.
Islamic teachings are universal in nature. Any excess, cruelty, family violence, or abuse committed by any Muslim are considered VIOLATIONS and ARE TO BE BLAMED ON THE PERSON(S) HIMSELF, as it shows that they are paying lip service to Islamic teachings and injunctions and failing to follow the true Sunnah of the Prophet (P).
