Retired FBI agent Bill Kelly is interviewed along with DeSalvo’s widow and Miami theater manager Arthur Sommer.

According to Kelly, DeSalvo was a local mob guy and the national distributor for Deep Throat for every state except Florida.

“He was the one who took some of my films- he wasn’t supposed to take them,” says Sommer, rather nebulously- not expanding on what he meant by “some of my films”.

“That’s how he got in the front door with Lou Perry [aka Lou Peraino],” Sommer continues.

“When Deep Throat started making a lot of money, Bobby was very unhappy because he did not fare well, financially,” Kelly says. “He decided I’m going to go collect more money for the work that I’ve done on the distribution of Deep Throat.”

According to DeSalvo’s widow, Janice, DeSalvo went over to Rome to have a meeting with “the old man”. The old man is not identified. Janice DeSalvo who kept notes last spoke to DeSalvo February 1, 1976 and never heard from him again although he was supposed to call her within a week.

Kelly said the FBI traced DeSalvo as far as London.

Sommer recalls Janice DeSalvo wife coming to see him, mentioning that DeSalvo was nowhere to be found in his hotel room and had disappeared.

Kelly said that was the last of DeSalvo, and his body was never found. He offers no conjecture other than to say that he wouldn’t fuck with the mob guys as far as their children and families were concerned.

“I treated them the way a law enforcement officer should,” says Kelly. “I didn’t mess with their kids or their wives. I didn’t make false accusations against them.” Kelly jokes about how he’d give the car keys every morning to his wife and have her start the car.

“I’d give her my bullet-proof vest and get under the dining room table.”
