SANTA BARBARA, CA – A press conference was held, surprisingly on time, at 11am (Pacific) by Santa Barbara law enforcement officials, to inform about the recent Michael Jackson alleged sex scandals. Tom Sneddon, Santa Barbara District Attorney, made it clear that they weren’t going to answer any questions directly about the investigation and also made it known that no one involved in the investigation will appear on any prime time shows or news programs.

With that disclaimer aforementioned, Sheriff Jim Anderson took the podium and said, “Yesterday morning at 8:30 am, investigators served a search warrant at Netherland Ranch. Simultaneous to the ranch, two search warrants were served at residents in Southern California. The service of the warrants were part of an on going investigation for Mr. Jackson.”

The warrants served are in regards to accusations from a credible witness that include multiple counts of child molestation.

When Jackson turns himself in, Santa Barbara officials will set a bail of three million dollars.

Anderson stated, “At this point in time, Mr. Jackson has been giving an opportunity to surrender himself in a specified amount of time. He has also been given the opportunity to surrender his passport at the time he turns himself in.”

Sneddon clarified the type of sexual charge they were seeking by saying, “Commonly, in these situations, there’s a 288 and a 288(a). This is 288(a), child molestation. What the penalties are…in California the legislation sets a time frame. 3 years, 6 years and 8 years per count. We’re filing multiple counts. The judge has the discretion to give multiple consecutive sentences.”

In response to watching commentary last night on various news services, Sneddon discussed the laws today as opposed to the laws in the last MJ scandal, “I wanna make several things clear. Number one, the law in California has changed. And it changed because of the 1993 MJ investigation. Back then a child could not be forced to testify. As a result of the MJ case, the legislature has changed the law. Secondly, as you all know, there were never any charges brought in the last investigation. There will be multiple charges filed in this case. Third…”

At this point Sneddon knocked one of the microphones off of the podium.

After a few laughs, Sneddon regained his composure and said, “Third….is that, at the time of the investigation in 1993 and 1994 there was a contemporaneous civil suit filed at the same time….that civil case culminated prior to the completion of our investigation. The victim then indicated to us they were no longer interested in pursuing. And the last reason is we now have a cooperative victim in this situation.”

Sneddon then outted a bit of a “dig” towards R&B, “Another thing I think the sheriff and I need to clarify about allegations we have heard. Jackson himself has said this was done to ruin his new CD release–like the sheriff and I are really into that kind of music.”

“The fact of the matter is we were going to issue this warrant several weeks ago,” Sneddon said, “but we had to put it off for all the visitors we had come to town over the last few weeks.”

Reporters asked about Child Services involvement, “Child protective services, at this point in time, is not involved in these investigations.” Sneddon responded.

Anderson said he may be a flight risk but they expect his full cooperation. In regards to Jackson’s own children being taken from him, Sneddon said, “that’s a decision that will be made be a juvenile court.”

Reporters wanted details on the other two warrants, “I’m not going to get into the details on those but we did search additional properties.” Sneddon said.

Is there a possibility that there could be other victims?

“Yes,” responded the sheriff, “we would like the public to come forward if they have any information that would lead us to other victims.”

A reporter asked a closing question, “What is your advice to parents who want to send their kids to Netherland Ranch for a sleep over?” Anderson jumped in, “my advice is Don’t Do It!”

Under his breath while walking away, Sneddon said, “None of my kids are there.”
