From www.examiner.com – What would it be like to have a porn star for a mom? You can find out Thursday, June 18, when Mommy XXX premieres on Sony Pictures Entertainment’s new web video site, Crackle.com. The show will follow Demi Delia, an adult film actress, and her two teenagers. There will be birthday parties (with porn stars) and more mundane stuff like trips to the doctor. Standard fare for reality TV, even one with XXX in the title.

Of course, in the age of Jon and Kate Plus 8, I’m more concerned about the kids than the moms. Mommy XXX also follows two teens, the son and daughter of Delia. Being a teen is hard enough; add to that being on a reality show about your porn star mother, and it is sure to get a little dicey. While I’m sure the teens think they understand what it means to be followed around by cameras, it is probably pretty hard to say no to your mom if she really wants you to participate. The show will apparently be following along to Delia’s daughter’s first gynecological appointment, which seems to be such an invasion at a very awkward and private moment. The teen may feel fine with the extra guests at her appointment, but when life is captured on film for reality TV, there is no such thing as changing your mind. Once it airs, there is no turning back. Of course, without the kids, Mommy XXX just becomes XXX, and there isn’t much unusual about that anymore.

I actually have no problem with the mom- she has a job, she takes care of her family, not much different from lots of other families. But splashing kids onto a reality show can have sad consequences. There are plenty of examples of teens who have not fared well after being on a reality show- just think of Daniel, the son of Anna Nicole Smith, or Jack Osborne, son of Ozzie Osborne. Of course, these kids had unusual lives already, so perhaps the cameras didn’t contribute to their struggles with drugs. I just hope teens from Mommy XXX do ok. From the preview they seem like smart, good kids who truly love their mother. I wish them luck!
