Tod Hunter writes: Corporate Synergy 101, or Why Only CBS News Sent A Camera Crew To The AVN Awards
You may have heard or seen that CBS News’ “Sunday Morning” program sent a correspondent to the AVN awards for a smart-assy look www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=26102 at what CBS insisted on calling “the Oscars of porn” despite the Academy’s specific request that other awards be called “the [whatever] equivalent of the Oscar.”
There are, what, half a dozen news operations that could have been there, right? ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox “News,” CNN, E!…. but only one showed up. CBS.
And as a rule, there is no national-news-media attention at all.
I think I know why.
The AVN awards are going to be shown on subscription cable service Showtime, a subsidiary of CBS Corporation — one of the two companies formed by the division of Viacom a few years ago — and a corporate sibling of CBS.
It was a corporate cross-plug, meant to gin up interest in the AVN awards for their eventual showing on Showtime.
