Evansville, Ill- Neighbors aren’t happy about a former truck stop-turned-adult book store.
The store, Adult Plaza, is located off Interstate 64, at the interchange you take to go to Holiday World. The former AMBEST truck stop reopened last week, selling adult entertainment books, tapes and novelties.
Spencer County has never had this problem before and officials are still trying to figure out what can be done to stop the business.
Right now, county officials say Adult Plaza is in violation of a long list of zoning codes. They still don’t have a permit to change the property from a truck stop to adult entertainment.
But so far there has been no response from company owners – and no compliance.
“It’ll just keep getting worse. There’s gonna be – there probably will be drugs involved, prostitution,” says Rhonda Temple. “There’s prostitution going on up there already.”
The Spencer County Planning Commission, along with the county attorney, are filing for a temporary injunction against the business, to try to close it down for at least a while.
Last week, the building commissioner also issued a ‘stop work’ order, but the problem continues to be the same: neither the owner, nor the Louisville-based company, will call them back or show their faces.
