DAVENPORT, Iowa The federal Postal Inspection Service will look into unwanted pornography that showed up in the mailboxes of about 40 Davenport residents.
Postmaster Dan Foley says the envelopes included postage that had been stripped off of already-mailed material.
He says it appeared the envelopes were then placed in people’s mailboxes in the same part of northeast Davenport.
Sam Owens with the Postal Inspection Service says it’s a federal crime to reuse postage, even if it doesn’t go through the mail again.
However, Owens says it’s less clear whether distributing adult pornography, even if it’s unsolicited, constitutes a crime.
Davenport police also are looking into the matter.
