from www.examiner.com – So Bluebird Films and its very own Dylan Ryder contacted me via twitter. As you may recall from my earlier story, I did a red carpet shoot for the release of their adult film “Katwoman XXX.” She sent me a tweet saying “I got something for you. DM me.”
My wife inquired why I had a sheepish grin on my face. I showed her the text and she shook her head at me, saying I am acting like a silly boy. Silly boy or not, I responded right away to see what Miss Ryder had for me. Perhaps it was an autographed copy of Katwoman XXX. After all I did a stellar story of her red carpet event, if I do say so myself. Perhaps it was an autographed 8 x 11 that I can show off and brag to my friends. It was neither. It turned out even better.
Dylan asked me if I wanted to take photos of girls with guns. Sweet! I really didn’t know what that meant but I was ready to shoot some pictures. My wife shook her head and said that I might want to wipe the Cheshire cat grin off my face before going to meet Dylan.
I arrived at the Gun Store on Tropicana Avenue and was quite surprised at what the Gun Store actually is; an indoor range that had a line going out the door. Not what I was expecting but this was a cool find. I met with Chris and Alicia, the owners of the Gun Store, and they gave me the tour.
Apparently people from all over the world come to Las Vegas to shoot guns. Not just any type of guns, but fully automatic bad boys. Well, that is not entirely true. Many people were shooting pistols and shotguns as well as machine guns. The Gun Store does have an area to purchase guns and accessories, yet the busier area of the Gun Store is the firing range.
Chris and Alicia showed me to the VIP range. I set up my camera and lights in my own private room with four private shooting alleys. As I waited for Dylan to show up, I looked at the Gun Store rental packages. They have packages for kids, ladies, and even an exclusive shoot in the dark packages. You can rent anything from MP5s to AK-47s; even a Thompson Machine Gun (known as a Tommy gun.)
As I looked at all the weapons available, I couldn’t help but think of all the video games. They had all of the guns from every video game I ever played, weapons like a Steyr Aug, Sniper Rifles, and even Uzis. They also had the world’s most powerful handgun, according to Dirty Harry, a 44 Magnum.
Dylan showedup. Wow I almost forgot about her. I was so immersed in figuring out which was the coolest gun the Gun Store had to offer; I completely forgot I was here for a photo shoot.
Chris and Alicia met with Dylan who was doing a story for Blue Bird Films Magazine UK. Chris and Alicia introduced us to our range officer. Despite just taking still photos, Chris and Alicia made it a point to discuss safety. The phrase they used echoed in my head as it is the same phrase I tell my son, which is to treat every gun as if it is a loaded weapon. We had a few range officers helping us out. They would bring guns into the room and make sure they were unloaded and safe before we took photos.
One of our range officers, Pearle, entered the room and left me breathless; it might have been that she walked in with a M249 S.A.W. (One huge gun!) Now as I watched Pearle inspect and handle this large automatic weapon, I must say I now understand the whole concept of this photo shoot. Girls with guns are hot!
Whatever fantasy I may have been constructing in my imagination quickly left my mind as I stood down range of this automatic weapon. It seems to get a shot of a pretty woman aiming a gun consisted of them aiming the gun at my crotch or my head while I snapped photos.
Good thing about safety first. The girls were not allowed to have their fingers on the trigger at any time. Range officers inspected the guns and pulled out the magazines where applicable. Range officers were on hand and made sure that all safety per cautions was followed to their specifications.
After several guns and different ladies; the shoot was all over. I felt a bit of relief not having these weapons of mass destruction pointed at me, although I was kind of eager to shoot a few. But I had another assignment and had to pack my things and go.
As I walked out of the VIP area, the line was still out the door. This was amazing, people of all shapes and sizes from businessmen to models to tourists to locals; the line was full of people from different walks of life. What targets would they pick? Would it be the bad guy? The Zombie? Perhaps the clown will meet its demise? It doesn’t matter which one they picked. I am a bit jealous of them right now. I can’t wait to get back there and shoot something other then a camera.
