from www.ocregister.com – Two married former schoolteachers from Huntington Beach pleaded guilty Thursday to having an unlawful sexual relationship with a 17-year-old high school student, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Daniel Alma Shepard, 63, and Gay Davidson-Shepard, 60, pleaded guilty to a court offer to three felonies each, including oral copulation of a minor and one misdemeanor each of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, prosecutors said in a news release.

Davidson-Shepard also pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of violation of a protective order for calling and texting the victim numerous times in November 2011 while out of custody on bail in the sexual assault and barred from contacting him.

The couple is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 27 at the West Justice Center in Westminster.

Prosecutors said they intend to object to the court offer sentence of three years’ probation, counseling, and 60 days of community service. Daniel Shepard’s two-year prison sentence and Davidson-Shepard’s four-year prison term will be stayed pending completion of probation, the release said.

At the time of the crime, Davidson-Shepard was a teacher at Mesa View Middle School in Huntington Beach and Daniel Shepard taught at Westminster High School.

Both sexually assaulted the boy over several months in 2009 after they groomed him by plying him with alcohol and entertaining him – playing board games and watching movies – at their Huntington Beach home, according to prosecutors.

Daniel Shepard befriended the boy when he was a student at Westminster High, they said.

In April 2009, the teen was sexually assaulted for the first time.

While the minor was at their home, the defendants got into the whirlpool spa naked and encouraged the victim to do the same, according to prosecutors. Illegal sex acts followed on a weekly basis until December 2009, prosecutors said.

In March, the victim told his mother about what happened and she contacted Westminster police.
