The shocking discovery: how affordable the ad rates are on www.adultcybermart.com –
Northwood, Iowa – from www.kaaltv.com – People in a small north Iowa town are reacting today after learning what’s going on above a downtown flowershop.
Northwood, a town of just over 2,000 isn’t known for being a player in the porn industry, but it could be.
And that’s news to many.
“My eyes got big and it’s like a total shock because we weren’t aware of anything occurring at that location, especially involving what it does,” said Northwood city Mayor, Randy Stevenson.
Exactly what the office is used for is largely a mystery.
A copyright company called Fraserside rents the space from former Worth County Attorney Chad Belville.
He says that company does copyright work for an adult entertainment business. But Belville says Fraserside has no part in production or distribution of adult material.
“Of course Northwood doesn’t like the publicity, especially bad publicity. I think it’s something that we could probably live without in town and not let it escalate any farther,” said Stevenson.
Local businesses in the area don’t want to believe the thought.
“I’ve known Connie for several years and she’s probably one of the keenest business women I know and has very good ethics and I know that she would not be involved in anything like this.
I’m sure she was just as shocked as I was when I heard,” said Sandra Madden, owner of nearby Northland Custom Interiors.
Sandra Madden says Belville grew up in Northwood and spent two tumultuous terms as the county prosecutor, which makes her worry about what could happen in the future if this wasn’t heard about until now.
“It would be very sad for me that someone with roots to Northwood would bring something like this to our town. I know that some people think porn has a place but i don’t think it has a place in Northwood,” said Madden.
Belville used to practice law in the upstairs office while he was the Worth County Attorney.
He now lives in Arizona.
