Utah Porn Bill Has Hearing Today

Wasn’t Utah the state that had a big fat porn czarina? Now it wants to fund money for a big fat Internet porno “investigator”.

Utah- A bill that would help the state crack down on Internet crimes against children advanced easily through a House committee on Monday. House Bill 132 would fund an investigator in the Utah Attorney General’s office to coordinate prevention efforts. “We need to educate parents, libraries, churches and other groups about the dangers of Internet pornography,” said sponsoring Rep. Tim Cosgrove, D-Murray. The bill now heads to the full House. Meanwhile, a Utah County lawmaker wants the Utah Attorney General’s Office to keep track of Internet porn. House Bill 260 would require Utah Internet service providers to rate porn Web sites for users, block access to some sites and make blocking software available. The bill also would set aside $100,000 for public service announcements, another $50,000 for a research project and $100,000 to establish an “adult content registry.” Sponsoring Rep. John Dougall, R-Highland, points to statistics that show 80 percent of children aged 12 to 14 have been exposed to hard-core Internet porn. The bill is scheduled for its first public hearing this morning.
