Milford, CT- No deal yet between a Milford church and an adult video store it wants off its property.
Video Pleasures says it’s willing to move, but church leaders don’t like how the store’s owners are negotiating.
“It’s hard to negotiate with the media. No offense to the New Haven Register and News Channel 8, but I want to talk to these guys face to face,” says Bishop Jay Ramirez, Kingdom Life Church.
Milford Church and the owner of an adult video store are trying to work out a deal. The Kingdom Life Church in Milford bought the building where Pleasure Videos does business and now the church is trying to get the video store out of town.
“We’ll let them out of this lease any time. We’re not gonna pay them but anytime he can walk away from it,” says Ramirez.
But the owner of the adult video store had a different offer in mind. He would like four months of free rent in exchange he’ll walk away from the other two years of his lease.
“I thought it was a good offer and I thought they should take it because right now I have no where else to go and I’m planning on staying if they don’t,” says Michael Friend, Video Pleasures.
“We’re not gonna pay him ten thousand dollars for him to get out of his lease and we’re not gonna subsidize a going out of business porno sale so he can release this material into the community,” says Ramirez.
“I found it ironic because I thought they wanted me out. They bought my building and this is the way they can get me out of the community,” says Friend.
The two hope to keep talking face to face and interestingly enough this area has been rezoned so if the adult store does leave a new one can’t come back in its place.
