Porn Valley- Wankus conducted a phone interview with Oakland Raiders fullback Zack Crockett Wednesday night. Crockett was calling KSEX, www.ksexradio.com from a basketball game. It was noted that Crockett had played a year for the Indianapolis Colts as well as Jacksonville and has been with the Raiders since 1999.
“You can’t beat the fans here,” said Crockett. “We have the best fans in the league.” Wankus was quick to point out that Raiders fans are noted for being nuts. “The Oakland fans are out of their mind. I’m a Dolphin fan- I can’t go to Oakland to see the Dolphins play. I’ll be killed.”
Wankus recited some of Crockett’s football pedigree, that he had gone to Florida St. and knows Wankus’ buddy Chris who set up the interview. “You went third round in the draft, now 37 touchdowns later you’re considered a veteran. Doesn’t that make you feel weird? You got to feel like you’re on Cloud 9. You made it to the NFL. You’re a big star, and people are calling you the veteran, the guy everyone looks up to.”
With all that, Crockett said he never overlooks the fact he and the team are continually working on getting better. Wankus pointed out some of the bright moments for the team this year but asked Crockett if he could put a finger on what went wrong. Crockett said the team was made up of personnel from a lot of different places. “This is not like basketball or baseball where you can buy yourself a championship.” Crockett said it was tough getting so many people adjusted in such a short period of time, whereas some of the other teams in the league had the luxury of players playing together for four or five years.
“We had all new faces,” explained Crockett. ” I still don’t know some of the guys’ names on the team. It’s a transition.” On the subject of Warren Sapp, Wankus was curious how he fit in with his new surroundings. Crockett said Sapp brought a lot of leadership and enthusiasm to the team. “He fit in the first day he got here.”
Asked if he had any thoughts on Ricky Williams leaving the Dolphins, Crockett observed that Williams hasn’t actually left yet. “They’re still holding his rights.” Noting that a lot of people supported Williams in what he did, Crockett was of the opinion that there’s a lot of ways you can go about making your point quite differently from the way Williams did it.
“They said he might be a Raider next year which means you’ll have to block for him,” Wankus suggested.
“He’s his own man,” answered Crockett. “He makes his own decisions. He felt his decision was right. He’s standing up for what he believes in.” Under those circumstances, Wankus mused whether Crockett could trust Williams as a teammate. “Wondering every Sunday whether he was going to show up or not.” Crockett said if Williams helps the team to a Super Bowl Championship, he doesn’t care what he did in the past. “You can’t banish somebody for making one mistake, whatever. You’ve got to give some people a chance sometimes.”
Noting Williams’ use of marijuana, Wankus said according to a lot of analysts there’s a prevailing trend towards use of medical marijuana because of the injuries and aches and pains. If that were the case, said Crockett, he wasn’t aware of that and, personally, doesn’t condone the use of drugs. “But to each his own. I don’t support it. But who am I to say.” Even so, Crockett said the way random testing is conducted in the NFL, it’s pretty difficult to get away with it, that you never know when you might be required to pee in a cup. “You could be in a restaurant with your fiancee or your wife, and come out of the restaurant and someone will want you to pee in a cup. You come out of the movies with your kids and they want you to pee in a cup.”
Wankus laughed about that being a case with porn stars, too, but that’s called a fetish. Noting that he’s a community activist, Wankus asked Crockett if he’s been following his own advice to kids and planning for his future. Crockett says he and his brother run The Crockett Foundation, www.crockettfoundation.org for less fortunate children. “And we hold camps every year for kids with sponsors helping us out. We do a lot of things in the community. We keep ourselves out there. You can’t play the game forever.” It’s also Crockett’s opinion that as long as you keep doing positive things you can be in control of your destiny and your life.
Being an NFL star, Wankus imagined that Crockett was getting his share of ass being thrown his way. “That’s a myth,” Crockett laughed. Crockett was also asked if he ever had to deal with a player in the closet trying to play grab ass in the shower. “Nobody’s going to grab me!” Crockett roared. “I’ve never been a part of anything like that!” In the years he’s been in the NFL, Crockett says he’s personally never seen instances of that kind of behavior. Wankus imagined that it would be hard to play with a teammate knowing that he was checking out your ass.
Wankus also wondered if Crockett was a porn fan and that also drew a nervous belly laugh from the fullback who didn’t seem too enthusiastic to address the subject. But Crockett admitted he watched porn though he was hard pressed to come up with names. Asked if he ever heard of Jenna Jameson, Crockett said he was familiar with her and, of course, Ron Jeremy. Co-ho Michelle Lay volunteered the notion that Zack Crockett was a great porn name.
