new York- A high school teacher who continued to have sex with her former student even after she was arrested for it was sentenced Friday to 6 months in jail and will lose her teacher’s license.
Heather Kennedy, 27, of Massapequa, told Judge Joseph Calabrese that she is sorry for what she did and has learned her lesson.
“I just want to move on with my life,” she said through tears.
The one-time Wantagh High School math teacher and track coach was first arrested a year ago after a 16-year-old boy confessed to his father that he had sex with her in a car in the school parking lot.
After she was charged with a crime, she continued to rendezvous with the teenager, having sex with him at her grandparents’ Bellmore home, at a mutual friend’s home in Wantagh, and after Kennedy picked him up from the Massapequa train station, prosecutors said.
“Your conduct, based upon your position in society, is very serious,” Calabrese said. “We certainly have to discourage it from ever happening again.”
Kennedy pleaded guilty to five counts of third-degree rape, and other sex offenses.
In addition to her jail sentence, she will be registered as a level three sex offender, and made to surrender her teaching license.
