What Was Diane Duke Thinking?

A few months ago I wrote an article suggesting that FSC go and hire themselves a big corporate gun to take care of Michael Weinstein and give him a taste of his own medicine. www.adultcybermart.com/adultfyi/?p=1195

By golly, the organization took my advice. Except I meant for them to replace Diane Duke, not add more pork to that trichinosis over there called Free Speech.

At the time I’m saying all of this, Duke was advertising that she had a secret plan. But she wasn’t at liberty to say what it was. I was comparing Duke’s secret plan to Richard Nixon’s secret plan for Vietnam. And we all know what happened there. They impeached the wrong president. Nixon’s gone and Duke’s still around.

Turns out, Duke’s secret plan was revealed this week. Free Speech announced that PR consultant James Lee would be heading up a team to defeat Measure B, otherwise known as the condom referendum, on the November ballot.

On the face of it, the idea is sound, except for one minor detail. Thanks to attorney Michael Fattorosi, who’s almost as good at reporting as he is at cooking, Lee is revealed to be the fox in the hen house.

Lee, and I’ll spare you most of the details, is a staunch Republican. Staunch as in he was the California Press secretary for the Bush/Quayle presidential run.

Accordingly, Lee “served as the primary campaign spokesperson in California, including managing all press operations during campaign such as press announcements, editorial placements, staging press events, press advance for senior Cabinet officials and facilitating letters to the editor campaign.”

Cripes. Anyone who can write a decent press release beats what Free Speech has got.

Lee then continued to earn his Republican Party merit badges when he served as deputy press secretary for California Governor Pete Wilson.

True, it’s a bit of comedown from putting intelligent words into Dan Quayle’s mouth, but Lee acquitted himself most admirably by endorsing James DeMint, the junior senator from South Carolina [since 2005] for Vice President.

Lee did so in a June, 2012 article which he wrote for US News & World Report.

According to a post attorney Fattorosi makes on www.adultbizlaw.com Lee in the article argues that Romney should choose DeMint since he’s a southern religious conservative. That almost sounds like Jerry Falwell back from the dead. Gimme that old time religion. It’s good enough for me.

In Fattorosi’s research he also uncovered that DeMint, a leading member in the Tea Party movement, has stated publicly, not once but twice, that gay persons and unmarried pregnant women should not be allowed to teach in public schools. Believe it or not, DeMint was actually running a 30-second television commercial to that effect.

And when it comes to porn, it looks like DeMint made hay of that issue to send his Democratic challenger Alvin Michael Greene to prison.

Of course Greene was doing alright on his own when it was reported that he was facing felony obscenity charges stemming from a November 2009 arrest for allegedly showing a pornographic picture on an Internet site to an 18-year-old female University of South Carolina student. I ask you, who among us hasn’t done that?

Then to prove he’s an all around cad and spoil-sport, DeMint was the only senator to vote against a jobs bill that would help service men find work during the Recession.

With a stern profile like this you get the idea that DeMint is John Lithgow’s character in Footloose.

Not so fast, though. DeMint proved he has loose shoes when he said the following to JP Morgan Chief Jamie Dimon [played by Bill Pullman in the movie “Too Big To Fall”] on the floor of the Senate Banking Committee.

According to DeMint: “The problem with the banking industry is that we’re trying to force it to wear condoms. It’s big. Very big. The biggest in the world. Condoms ruin the fun of risking preventable diseases.”

For sensitivity, that’s almost on par with senate candidate Todd Akins’ observation about “legitimate rape”.

As far as Lee’s concerned, Fattorosi also notes that Lee’s allegiance to the Bushes should have guys like Ira Isaacs, Max Hardcore and John Stagliano feeling very uncomfortable about where their FSC dues money has been going all these years.

But that’s okay. Diane already got her vote of confidence from a bunch of confidence men.

Not that Lee is a bad guy, Fattorosi points out, but you got to wonder what Free Speech had to be thinking when they aligned themselves with someone who feels that a guy like DeMint merits being a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Thank goodness Romney picked that Yuppie snipe Paul Ryan.
