Las Vegas: posted on The Movable Buffet: This is the story of a former President, a famous golf course, a 5 year old’s birthday party, a porno star and a rocket. It is a typical Vegas happening.

Yesterday I talked about Sunset Thomas enjoying and appreciating how accepting Las Vegas is of her and how much easier that made her life as a porn star mommy. That will be a comfort to another porn star mommy, Sophia Rossi. Porn star is a new title for Rossi. Rossi actually built her career to this point with more mainstream work that according to her online resume ranges from a commercial for Ruffles Potato Chips to being a stage dancer for Kid Rock.

She also is a former Miss. Congeniality Nevada. But when the biggest name in adult, Jenna Jameson, came calling to sign her up for Club Jenna she decided to make the leap into porn: Sophia’s Syndrome (which features Jenna) will be released on May 9. And, though this story I am about to tell you is not a publicity stunt it couldn’t have worked out better.

Anyway, the modeling work must pay well, because Rossi lives at the exclusive Las Vegas Country Club (located near the Las Vegas Hilton). These days, of course, the high rise condominiums near the Strip and mansions on Lake Las Vegas and huge homes in Summerlin are the best ways to be ostentatiously rich.

But as a lifetime Las Vegas resident Rossi, 28, remembers when the Las Vegas Country Club was the most fashionable address in town with colorful owners like Moe Dalitz and residents who became characters in the movie “Casino.”

The Las Vegas Country Club is a gated community with a well known golf course at the center surrounded by exclusive homes and also including one condominium tower. Even now the place has an eclectic mix of residents. My two visits there to do interviews will give you a good sense of The LVCC crowd. The first time I was buzzed through the gate was to go to the home of Steven Adler, the original drummer of Guns N’ Roses. The second time I went to the clubhouse at the golf course to have a brunch interview with residents Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme.

Rossi has lived at the Las Vegas Country Club for the past couple years, and she held a birthday party there for her five year old daughter near the fifth fairway. “We had a dozen kids and with the adults, it was like 80 people. It was a great afternoon though it got a little more out of control than I anticipated. We had a pinata and a juggler in the back and we got into a water balloon fight and we were kind of wet.”

Paying no attention to what was taking place on the golf course, the problems for Rossi began when a a neighbor who she describes as a photographer for Hawaiian Tropics brought over a rocket. “It goes like 300 feet in the air and makes your skin jump it goes so fast and then a parachute comes out of it. We were getting ready to shoot it off, when these people seemed to appear out of thin air to me. These guys were running towards us flashing what looked like badges. At first I thought they were crackheads who jumped the fence or crazy people and that the badges were fake. They just start screaming ‘Don’t fire that rocket! Don’t fire that rocket!’ The were Secret Service. I have no idea how they noticed that we were about to do that. We didn’t even notice anyone on the course. But once they said they were Secret Service I looked up and there was President Clinton (playing golf) in my backyard about 20 or 30 feet away.”

Did Rossi think of trying to meet the former President? “At the time I didn’t. My boyfriend started making remarks (to the Secret Service) asking if the President wanted to meet Jenna’s new adult actress. They were like, ‘Huh?’ So, I was like ‘Oh my god,’ and I went in the house. I got embarrassed and I was all wet from the balloon fight.”

You can’t blame him. Her boyfirend was probably thinking of the publicity value of a shot featuring Rossi and Clinton on the eve of her debut release. (And, remember porn is an industry where adult stars have been know to secretly film themselves having sex with celebrities and then calling the press to get a little mainstream exposure.) But Rossi’s had another thought in her head: “It would have been really awesome for my daughter to be able to get a picture with him (President Clinton).”
