MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Shoppers found spiked-heel shoes, a whip and other strip-club goodies at a Memphis auction ordered by the state.
The auction Thursday was at the former Platinum Plus — once 1 of the city’s more notorious topless dance clubs. It was closed last year following a drug and prostitution investigation.
Auctioneers sought to empty the club of anything of value, taking bids from more than 200 shoppers on bar and kitchen equipment, furniture and light fixtures, including a disco ball. Several pairs of spiked-heel and stacked-heel shoes and at least one whip also went up for sale.
Authorities say the auction brought in $60,000, which will be split among local law enforcement agencies and the state. The federal government owns the building and plans to sell it later.
