from www.kirotv.com – Seattle police say a woman managed to escape a sexual assault in Northgate on Saturday after offering her attacker a condom and running away while he looked for it.
William Bol Akol, 31, is facing second-degree rape charges after a 22-year-old woman said he randomly attacked her and tried to rape her in the bushes.
The woman said she was out with some friends at Earl’s in the University District and caught a bus to go to another friend’s house in the area of Northeast Northgate Way, according to probable cause documents. While she was walking on Northeast Northgate Way, a man approached her from the opposite direction, grabbed her by the throat and threw her into the bushes.
The man got on top of her and told her he wanted sex, according to the documents. He choked her and put his hand over her mouth, and then began punching her in the face and fondling her breasts. The woman told police that she began cooperating with the man to avoid being hurt any further and he put his hand into her pants.
She said she pleaded with the man not to hurt or kill her and asked him if he had a sexually transmitted disease, according to the documents. She said she told the man that if he was going to rape her, she had a condom in her purse and that he could use it. While the man was looking in the woman’s purse, she was able to get up and run to a nearby AM/PM station to call for help.
Akol denied assaulting anyone and said he was on Rainier Avenue South at the time of the attack.
