NC- posted on www.jasoncurious.com: Under fire from Army officials, it seems Active Duty is holding its head high and weathering the storm as its own unit. Over the weekend, Army officials began investigating allegations that members of the celebrated 82nd Airborne Division have been appearing in movies for gay adult video production company, Active Duty. Up to seven soldiers are being questioned by the authorities. While ActiveDuty.com does not make any reference to the 82nd Airborne or Fort Bragg, all but the member's section of the web site has been shut down.
I spoke with the owner of Active Duty, Dink Flamingo, yesterday in an exclusive interview. "As a result of our recent local and national media coverage and the ongoing investigation involving seven of Active Duty's models, we've decided to close off the site to the general surfer and restrict access to only members for the time being," he says.
"My main reason for doing this is to ensure the physical safety of my men. I don't want some jack-ass private or group of privates sitting in the barracks perusing the website to find their buddies so they can harass them. Even more, I don't want some crazed group of homophobic guys to spot one of their co-workers and go on a 'queer bashing mission' as a result."
While many may consider shutting down the site a bad business move at a time like this, Flamingo puts the focus on "family" before financial gain. "Most of my friends in the industry have gawked at my decision to close Active Duty and lose all this free publicity, but that just goes to show how little they truly understand about the dynamics behind Active Duty and how we operate here. This ain't Hollywood, this is backwoods and we like our little white trash way of running things. It's what has long set us apart," he says.
"My men and I are holding up well and keeping our sense of humor in tact as we weather the storm. We are family here at Active Duty not just some porn company making movies. Anyone familiar with AD knows that we are a very, very close band and that we will stick together through good times and bad. As Churchill used to say, 'we will keep buggering on' and see this thing to its end. I will not abandon my men or my loyal members and I will certainly keep sight of my mission. I'd like to thank everyone in the industry that has taken the time to show their support. It truly means a lot to hear from folks when times are rough."
In happier news for the company, Active Duty was nominated for a GayVN Award yesterday in the category of Best Amateur Video for their movie, Hard Corps 2.
This movie, along with dozens of other Active Duty titles, is available to watch now in video on-demand in our very own JC Theatre.
