Pennsylvania- Three Franklin County men were among seven charged with sexual impropriety last week after an adult bookstore on U.S. 30 near Gettysburg was closed by police.

Private Dock violated state law governing such businesses, according to a temporary injunction filed to close it.

John Edward Young, 66, Orrstown; Reginald Antwain Smith, 40, Shippensburg; and Jamie Lee Frew, 32, Waynesboro; were charged with criminal activities in affidavits filed with Adams County Magisterial District Judge Mark Beauchat. Also charged were Francis W. Kendrick, 36, New Oxford; Gregory A. King, 64, Gettysburg; Gerald E. Mickey, 64, East Berlin; and James H. Smiley, 71, New Berlin.

Adams County District Attorney Shawn Wagner said Pennsylvania State Police and Franklin Township supervisors have been involved in an investigation into violations at the store for several months.

During December and January, undercover vice squad troopers went into Private Dock, which has since been renamed Frontier Club, and observed violations of the state crimes code and real estate act.

Those violations included indecent assault, open lewdness and indecent exposure.

Wagner said his office asked for an injunction against the business Friday and the store was closed pending a hearing today.

Wagner described Private Dock as an adult-oriented establishment offering books, films, video cassettes, magazines and other periodicals relating to adult sexual activity.

The store has booths where people can view adult-oriented movies, according to the injunction request.

The injunction charges that visibility into video booths is partially blocked by doors and do not contain sufficient overhead lighting. It also alleges patrons are permitted to use the booths for sexual activity.

State law requires that booths, cubicles, rooms or stalls such as those at Private Dock must be clearly visible from the facility's common area, and lighting must be adequate in the area where those booths are located.

Affidavits filed in the cases against the seven store patrons charge Smith exposed himself and had indecent contact with one of the troopers on two occasions while in the hallway of the business. He is charged with indecent assault, indecent exposure and open lewdness.

Frew and Young are charged with indecent exposure and open lewdness. They allegedly exposed themselves in one of the adult video booths, according to the affidavit.

Private Dock is at 1208 Chambersburg Road (U.S. 30) in Franklin Township, five miles west of Gettysburg.
