New York- The latest chapter in the Al Goldstein story: From porn to pastrami.
The one-time SCREW magazine publisher and nosher of epic proportions -- who lost half his body weight after a stomach stapling and his Pompano Beach mansion in a bankruptcy -- is now sales manager at New York's famed Second Avenue Deli.
''I'm only getting $10 an hour but I eat like a pig,'' he said Friday. ``I look at the counter with all the cold cuts and I walk around with a semi-erection.''
Goldstein, 68, has been alternating between a Manhattan homeless shelter and the floor of his in-laws' Queens apartment since July.
Wife Christine Ava Maharaj, 28, has been hospitalized recently with Crohn's disease: an intestinal inflammation.
"He's greeting people. He's a good shmoozer,'' said manager Steve Cohen. ``He's been a friend for many years and a successful businessman.''
And he crusaded on his now-defunct cable show, Midnight Blue, for justice in the unsolved 1966 murder of deli founder Abe Lebewohl.
''That was lovely,'' said Cohen.
