FORT SMITH, Ark. — An Arkansas mayor and judicial candidate has been issued an arrest warrant for alleged abuse of the public trust and patronizing a prostitute.
Troy Anderson, 72, allegedly attempted to solicit sex from a woman who was delinquent on paying her water bill, the Fort Smith Times-Record reported.
The woman told Arkansas State Police investigators in January that Anderson had been attempting to solicit sex from her for several years. Later that month, she agreed to wear a recording device while asking Anderson for help in getting custody of her granddaughter from the Department of Health and Human Services.
When she met with Anderson, he allegedly asked her for sex, kissed her and exposed himself, she said in an affidavit. Anderson allegedly said he would go to the bank and withdraw $100.
In February, another woman claimed she had sex with Anderson for money and to avoid paying her water bill for several years.
Anderson was elected mayor in 1998 and is currently a candidate for Scott County judge. He has not yet been arrested.
The felony charge would not prohibit him from holding public office, but a conviction would.
