Texas -- Chicas Locas, the city's last nonconforming strip club, lost its appeal Friday for an exemption to continue operating as a sexually oriented business despite being less than 1,000 feet from a home.
The License and Amortization Appeals Board unanimously denied the club's request after a daylong hearing in which it heard testimony from Arlington police about sexual acts, open drug dealing and other violations that they've seen at the west Division Street strip club during the past 18 months.
Chicas Locas representatives were required to prove to the seven-member board that they were a "good neighbor" to receive the exemption.
Centerfolds Inc., which owns Chicas Locas, has already filed an appeal in state district court and will continue allowing its dancers to be completely nude, the club's attorney Roger Albright said. The club does not have a liquor license and allows customers to bring their own alcoholic beverages.
