Porn Valley- Although she’s listed as 69 years old on MySpace, one gets the impression that Ashley Steel’s a lot younger. Granny age or not, It must have been Ashley Steel week on KSEX because Steel was on three different shows including one with Guy Capo, Friday night. Steel was serving as co-host and Guy Capo, who was filling in for Wankus, took the opportunity for an interview.

Steel grew up in Orange County and is a total California girl, she mentioned. Because she goes to school, Capo assumed Steel might have tried her hand at stripping.

Steel’s studying psychology and was a legal secretary at one time.

I was, like, fuck it. I figured what else am I going to do in LA that I can pay for school and still pay my bills and have time to study? I was like that’s perfect- I’ll do porn!”

Capo thought it was incredibly hot that Steel was a former legal secretary turned porn star.

“I could probably fill a bunch of peoples’ fantasies right now,” Steel replied. “I was the total legal secretary in the hot little business outfits. “You definitely don’t work as much as you would if you did boy-girl,” admitted Steel. “Those girls work seven days a week.” Steel said it goes 50-50 for her in the sense that she likes women just as much as she likes men, sexually.

“I think when it comes to a relationship I’d probably prefer a guy,” she added. “Like, oooh, he’ll protect me.””The sweaty masculine Adonis man- that fantasy,” Capo chimed in. Steel is in her third year of college and said she would be starting her senior year real soon.

“I’m going to be applying to masters’ programs and working on getting my Ph.D.” she said. “This school I want to go to has a five year Ph.D program. Steel said, although porn for her was a stepping stone, she felt she’d be involved with it in some way whether it was directing or producing or running websites.

“Or counseling,” mused Capo.

“Because we all know there’s plenty of work in this business,” said Steel.

“Emotional scarring is a benefit in this business,” laughed Capo. “It gets you through a lot of shit. There are those who say in order to even be able to participate in this business, you have to be fucked up in some kind of way.” Steel didn’t totally agree with that.

“For me it’s a job,” she said. “I do my work, I put on a performance- it’s entertainment- you do a good scene and you go home. But I don’t do boy-girls. I think if I was getting rammed by 350 guys a year, I might be a little fucked up. But that’s for me, though. I think if some people can do it and not have it bother them, it’s amazing and they should.”

Capo brought up the immigration issues and Steel said she lives near the Federal Building and has seen first hand some of the crazy protests in the past couple of weeks.

Asked about some of the recent projects she’s done, Steel said Atomic Vixens and Grudge Fuck 5 from DVSX are out.

“That’s my line,” said Capo. “I started Grudge Fuck- the AVN award-winning best vignette series of the year. Paola Banana directed 5- am I correct?” Steel wasn’t sure but worked with Isabella Sky and Lexxi Tyler. Steel said she likes everything about girls especially nipples, boobs, and a nice butt.

“There’s got to be some kind of connection,” she said. “There’s got to be a cute face.” For his part, Capo said a woman has to have a nice mouth.

“If you have jacked up teeth and shit and looks like a bad bite out of your apple, I can’t hang with that,” he laughed.

“Do you orgasm in your scenes or do you go through the motions?” Capo asked her. Steel said it depends who she’s working with that about half of her scenes have been real.

“Sometimes there are people that you are not as into,” she said. “You still make a great scene and put on a good show- but it’s not necessarily real.” Asked how old she was, Steel said, “We’re going with 19- is that how it works?” Capo was inclined to agree with maybe an outside 20 or 21. Steel mentioned that her family divorced when she was around two.

“I was real young and my mom was kind of on drugs, messed up,” she said. “She dated this really abusive guy. It was actually kind of traumatic and was tough. But I think it’s made me so much stronger now. Then my dad was kind of there, not there. He’s really there now. We’re very close friends now but I think he was going through some stuff when I was younger.”

Steel said her family is cool with what she does and found out about it a couple of months ago.

“My dad- I feel horrible for him because he doesn’t want his daughter to be doing porn,” she sighed. “But at the same time he knows I’m doing it for school and that he can’t financially help me. He’s understanding.” Capo wondered if the fact that Steel only does girls is some comfort to her family.

“Maybe,” she replied. “I would think so. I try to explain to my dad exactly what I do and he’s okay.

“‘So it’s softcore?’ No, but it’s just girls.”

Capo said there’s a slippery slope theory to porn.

“You get in and you just do girls- for now,” he said. “Then you like the money. Then you get a boyfriend and he’s cool with it.”

“Then you break up and you start fucking everybody,” Steel added having heard that story.

“Before you know it you’re doing double anal and bukkakes,” Capo chuckled. “How do you prevent that from happening and how do you see yourself even remotely susceptible to that happening with you? A lot of guys are hoping that it does.”

According to Steel it wasn’t worth it for her to do that because she wants to get her PhD and write books.

“I want to give self-help seminars,” she said. It’s going to be, yeah, I was a porn star. But it would be a little different than if I was fucked by a thousand guys while I was paying for school. That would be a little bit harder to explain. I think for me I’m just not going to go there.” Steel said she’s had large offers to do boy-girl but isn’t.

“What would be the price?” Capo wondered.

“That is a lot to have to make back on DVD sales,” Capo roared. “What do you have to sell 5 million units to get your money back on that?”

Nonetheless, Steel said it wasn’t going to happen.
