Posted on www.pornlegends.com: When the list of Adult Video News (AVN) awards nominations were released last week, companies and individuals in the industry could not get the word out fast enough that they or their productions had garnered a nomination. We want to congratulate all those nominated, but...
For the past several years, people have complained that the AVN awards are fixed. It was suggested that the winners of such awards had purchased advertising in the AVN magazine thus giving them a huge advantage in the magazine's voting process. Honestly, we don't care if the allegations are true or not and neither should you.
Sure, the AVN awards carry some weight with people withing the industry, but if a recent Porn Legends poll is any indication, awards really don't mean much to the paying public.
The poll question asked was - I choose an X-rated film because of the: (A) Awards it won (B) Stars in it (C) Theme of the flick (D) Photos on the box cover.
An overwhelming number, 85.18%, voted that they choose an X-rated film simply by the stars that appeared in it or for the photos that appeared on the box cover. In fact, no person voted that they chose an X-rated film based on any awards it may have won.
The late Jim Holiday summed it up best when he wrote: "A sex film should never lose sight of the fact that it is a sex film. The primary purpose is arousal, not entertainment. Plot, production, acting and entertainment values are wonderful additions but not as important as constantly erotic sex." So much for that trophy for best porno screenplay. It must make a nice doorstop.
