PORTLAND, ORE. - On the basis of a phone call from an unidentified man who claimed he was a police officer, the manager of a Burger King in Gresham, Ore., ordered a juvenile female employee to strip naked in his office after hours, and to open her legs so the manager could look for $50 the girl allegedly had stolen from a customer, the girl claims in Multnomah County Court.
This went on for 45 minutes, until her mother arrived, saw her daughter naked and ordered her to get dressed, and called the police. The manager said it never occurred to him to question whether the caller really was a cop, or even to ask him name, the complaint states. She sued The Westwind Group of Oregon, which runs the Gresham Burger King. (Similar incidents have been reported for several years at fast-food restaurants around the country.) This incident allegedly occurred in February 2004. The girl is represented by R. Brendan Dummigan.
