Porn Valley- If James Bartholet were a car salesman working on 50% commission he couldn’t have been more excited or enthusiastic.

Bartholet who’s started up a P.R. agency called Galaxy Publicity, www.galaxypublicity.com was pitching one of his new clients, August.

“I got weak in the knees when she walked up to the house,” Bartholet is saying. “She’s just so beautiful. I’m getting an erection talking about it.”

I thanked Bartholet for sharing that last comment. But Bartholet didn’t have to do the sell on me because I remembered interviewing August when she first got into the business.

When I spoke to her this week, August reminds me that it was seven years ago. She walked one afternoon into Extreme Associates, got naked, I took pictures and we talked. Pretty good body, great personality as I recall.

But August says the body part of the equation is even better- that she just got a boob job in October and now works out, like, five days a week.

When she walked into my office that first time, August was needing some extra cash, and porn seemed like a quick answer.

“I never thought I’d be doing it this long, but here I am!” she laughs. “I ended up liking it, and it was kind of addicting for me. I’m really happy right now and hope I’ll have a really great year.”

August is with L.A. Direct and has been with them about a year and a half. Before that, she was with Exotic Stars and before that she repped herself. But, from the sounds of it, August prefers agency representation, adding that getting the boob job gave her impetus for a better body image.

“I totally got in shape and have been eating right,” she comments. August knows it sounds funny to say but she finally did her first D.P. It was for Jules Jordan whom she signed for at AEE.

“Everyone was really shocked when I did the D.P,” she relates, noting that the scene included Jenner and Rick Masters. “And I just shot a scene with Tom Byron for Lord of Asses. That went really well. That was regular anal.”

And August doesn’t do too many of those, either. It’s probably like only her third or fourth. This past year she was also nominated by AVN in the Best Supporting actress category and got named as one of the Top 100 porn stars by Xbiz.

“That was very cool,” she says. August [her birthday’s actually September 13] also started dancing two years ago and is waiting to finalize her schedule for this year. She mentions the Bartholet connection.

“James is doing my P.R.- I think I’m ready for that,” she says. Otherwise August has been busy shooting for her website, www.clubaugust.com

“I shoot for my site every week,” she says, having launched it about three years ago through Atlas Multimedia. With a name as relatively un-porn as hers, August thinks august.com is probably mainstream and found out via search engine, how popular the August name is.

“I’m also very active with MySpace,” she adds. “I’ve just been keeping very busy traveling and working.”

Not too long ago she had the opportunity to shoot a European clothing ad and has been Lowrider Magazine girl. This month she also gets to do an Oscar stint with Bartholet.

“This is my second year doing that with him,” she says. “Basically we interview the stars on the red carpet. Then we get to go and party with them.”

The last time she did it- about three years ago- August remembers having a great time.

“I met some really great actors and it was really cool to have that experience and be able to party with them on a personal level, versus just interviewing them. And I’m really looking forward to going this year and meeting some of the new stars.”

Asked if any of them had hit on her, August says Eddie Griffin did. August then mentioned something about picking up her dress for the event.

Before she got into porn, August was in the optical field for four years and worked for an optometrist.

“I did everything from working in the lab to selling glasses,” she recalls. “I did pretty much everything possible at a very young age. I was good at what I did but I was looking for some extra cash. I tried dancing but I really didn’t like that. Then I saw this ad: Lingerie Models Wanted. I thought, okay. They told me what it was, I went down there, did a test shoot and was okay with the idea of being filmed and having sex on camera. I was okay with that.”

But August says she wasn’t sexually promiscuous until she got into the business.

“I had a boyfriend for four years all through high school,” she tells me. “I’ve grown up on camera-literally. Me maturing mentally, emotionally and physically, it’s all happened on camera, and I think that’s kind of cool. I think the older I get the more comfortable I am with myself.”

The first time she tried anal was with her boyfriend at the time, and it was on camera.

“I used to date Tyler Durden [who went on to marry Teagan Presley],” August explains. “We went together for a couple of years but broke up. It’s a part of my life I’d rather forget. He’s a crazy motherfucker.

“I’m not saying everyone’s like that in the industry. But I don’t know if I would go that way again. I’m not saying I would or I wouldn’t but it would take a really special person. Being single and being in a relationship are two totally different things and I’m pretty content with being alone for now. That guy would have to have a Superman cape on, let’s put it that way.

“I would not have been able to express myself on camera like this past year had I been in a relationship,” she comments. “I think the scenes that I’ve done this past year have been the most memorable for me.”

The fact that she wasn’t an easy roll in the hay at one time, August thinks was part parental influence.

“And I wasn’t comfortable expressing myself sexually, and I always had a boyfriend. But once I got a taste of it, I couldn’t stop.”

August is glad, too, she lost her virginity to her first love. This was at the age of 16.

“It couldn’t have happened in a better way,” she observes. “I know there’s a lot of horror stories but mine was okay.” August says they broke up because they grew apart but are still friends and talk.

“But I don’t want to be with him any more.”

The weird part, I tell her, is the fact that she could just get into the business and have sex without batting an eye.

“I don’t know why,” she laughs. “Maybe I saw one porn movie before that and I thought it was disgusting. I didn’t know who Jenna Jameson was nor did I care who was famous. I got into this business very naively. Of course I got taken advantage of.

“I did my first scene for $400. Then I met better people, different people and more honest people. That opened up other things for me and made me feel there was other things I can be doing.”

The $400 scene was for adult.com, August goes on to say. Which is one helluva domain address to have when you think about it.

“The guy who first shot me, his name was Sam Shaft,” August goes on to say.

“His wife’s name was Emerald and she now works for Gold Star Modeling in the office. I did one of my first scenes with her and her husband. They’re obviously not together any more, but she still comes up to me every time she sees me, saying, wow, you’ve grown up. She watched me grow up and was the one who helped me pick a name. I said I want a name that no one has. She said you look like an August Night. But I dropped the Night. She asked me why, and I said I felt like I should just be August.

“But that was kind of cool that she gave me my name. We still are on good terms even though she took advantage of me. But that was because she was in a messed up relationship. I understand that, but I don’t know what happened to him.”

I tell August it’s nice to know she’s been in the business seven years and not criminally psychotic.

“I like to think of myself as a positive person,” she replies. “I try not to have negativity. I try to show up with a good attitude and try my best.”

August thinks she’d like to retire by the time she’s 30.

“I think that would be time for me to find new direction in my life,” she insists. “That, or if for some reason I had a child. I would not want to be performing if I had a kid. That wouldn’t be for me.”

For now, August has been single the last year, and that’s been the best year so far of her life, she feels. “Nothing’s holding me back and that feels so good.”

August tries to go out at least once a week with her girlfriends, whether it’s an industry party or personal time.

“If I’m for it, hey why not,” she says. She mentions that she has two cats, and with the plural I predicted she’d become a cat lady.

“I know!” she laughs. “I had them for awhile and I like to hang out watching movies. But I’ve got to be honest. I’ve got a lot of energy. I’m always working out, going somewhere or doing something. If there’s not something, I’ll make something. On my days off, I’m either shooting for my website or updating content. Doing something.”

On Monday, August works for Dice Magazine.

“It’s a car and motorcycle magazine,” she explains. “But the most exciting thing lately was shooting that anal scene with Tom Byron. Other than that I’m staying busy, hanging out and keeping out of trouble.”
