TAMPA – Debra Lafave asked to be let off of her community control sentence early, and on Tuesday morning a judge decided she'll get her wish— sort of.
Judge J. Rogers Padgett decided Tuesday morning that the former Greco Middle School teacher will come off house arrest and electronic monitoring early— on July 11. Lafave had requested that the change be made immediately, but Judge Padgett instead offered a compromise, cutting the remaining seven months of her sentence in half.
Lafave's attorney, John Fitzgibbons, told the judge his client has done everything that has been asked of her, and in the end the judge agreed to a compromise.
