Florida- A former Broward County doctor who temporarily paralyzed four individuals, including himself, with shots of a dangerous knock-off of the anti-wrinkle drug Botox received a three year prison sentence Wednesday night in Fort Lauderdale federal court.
The three-year prison term is the stiffest possible punishment under a plea agreement Bach McComb made with the government
McComb, 48, pleaded guilty in November 2005 to working with unapproved pharmaceuticals while a doctor at Oakland Park's Advanced Integrated Medical Centers. A year earlier, McComb injected himself, his then-girlfriend Alma Hall, and Eric and Bonnie Kaplan of Palm Beach Gardens with a potent toxin unapproved for use on humans. All four developed severe botulism poisoning and were hospitalized for months, unable to speak, swallow or breathe on their own.
At the time, McComb's medical license already had been suspended by the state of Florida following the deaths of two patients in Sarasota from painkiller overdoses.
