Arizona - from www.host.madison.com - A doctor imprisoned in Arizona for his activities in a prostitution ring known as “Desert Divas” has to surrender his license to practice his speciality — diagnostic radiology — in Wisconsin, the state’s Medical Examining Board has decided.
Ross Levatter, who practiced in the state via telemedicine from Phoenix, was convicted in 2010 of money laundering and conspiracy to promote prostitution. He was sentenced to three years in prison and was expected to be released this November, according to the board’s decision.
The state’s board accepted Levatter’s voluntary surrender of his license and right to reinstatement on July 20.
According to media reports from Arizona, police said Desert Divas was a multi-million-dollar escort service that ran five websites offering prostitutes until investigators took the ring down in 2008.
Levatter, 46, and others started the business in Arizona and then brought it to Albuquerque, N.M. Levatter’s job was to hire and fire the prostitutes. Investigators said he even ran a blog that rated the women.
Levatter has been licensed to practice in Wisconsin since 1997 and was listed on the staff of a Green Bay clinic, though the examining board reported he had “never practiced while present in the state.”
