Documentary: “Somebody’s Daughter: A Journey to Freedom from Pornography”

NASHVILLE, TN — Larry Flynt, the publisher of Hustler magazine, and Joe Francis, the producer of “Girls Gone Wild” videos, recently said they were asking Congress for $5 billion in federal assistance, asserting the adult entertainment industry was among those hit “like a cold shower” by the recession.

A twisted joke to most Americans, but the pornography industry in the United States and its devastating effect on individuals, marriages, families and workplaces is no laughing matter, according to Steve Siler, [pictured] director of Music for the Soul (MFS), a Nashville-based Christian ministry that provides multimedia resources to promote the discussion and healing of life’s most painful issues.

“Pornographers continue to disregard the heartbreak and devastation they wreak on a daily basis,” said Siler. “Then they take advantage of the economic misfortune of millions Americans in order to generate free publicity. I would call this act thoughtless, if it wasn’t so calculated. Some have called it a joke. But to laugh and joke about this epidemic is hurtful and offensive.”

Siler and MFS recently released “Somebody’s Daughter: A Journey to Freedom from Pornography” (http://www.somebodysdaughter.org/), a DVD/CD multimedia compilation featuring a television documentary detailing the lives of three men and one couple active in Christian ministry who struggled with and overcame addiction to pornography. The release includes 18 compelling and therapeutic songs, four illustrative music videos and personal vignettes. Study guide curriculum for individuals, counselors and churches also is available.

The “Somebody’s Daughter” TV documentary has appeared on the ION Network (former PAX TV). It is set to air on the INSP, Daystar and NRB networks and on an American Family Association webcast.

According to recent surveys, nearly 60 percent of Christian men and 37 percent of pastors admit to struggling with pornography. No longer just a problem for men, 35 percent of women also admit to the addiction. “Somebody’s Daughter” was produced to shine the light on how the $13.3 billion pornography industry is plaguing those who profess Christianity, and to promote healing and deliverance from the growing epidemic.

Steve Siler is the writer of 400 recorded songs, nine “Number One” Contemporary Christian Music magazine (CCM) songs and 40 “Top 10” singles. He has been nominated for four Dove Awards, winning the Inspirational Song of the Year in 2000 with “I Will Follow Christ.”

Music for the Soul (http://www.musicforthesoul.org/) is a not-for-profit Christian ministry committed to providing life-changing healing through music and song. The ministry provides multimedia resources for churches, pastors, counselors and lay leaders to promote the discussion and healing of life’s most painful issues.

Projects produced by Music for the Soul follow a specific formula in order to reach target audiences. Each musical and video production states the problem, helps the audience see it in their own life, walks them through steps toward healing, and shows them there is hope and a future free from pain. Other topics tackled by Music for the Soul productions include eating disorders, cancer survival, suicide, children with special needs and marital strife. The ministry also produced a CD for survivors of Hurricane Katrina and for emergency workers after the 9/11 tragedy.
