Detroit – from www.freep.com – After telling the judge she was a changed woman, a former porn star and call girl was spared a prison sentence today for her role in a massive prostitution agency that was busted in Detroit last summer.

Nayubet Swaso [pictured], also known as Sierra Sanchez in the escort industry, was placed on two-years of supervised release for helping to run Miami Companions, a high-priced escort service that dispatched prostitutes nationwide — Detroit being among its busiest ports.

In pleading for leniency, Swaso told U.S. District Court Judge Arthur Tarnow that she has learned from her mistakes and is working hard to become a better person.

“I have a plan. And every day I wake up in the morning, I don’t want to go back to what I was doing,” a choked-up Swaso said in court.

According to court records, Swaso was a former manager of Miami Companions’ overseas call centers in Panama and Costa Rica, where she verified the men seeking escorts and set up their appointments. After discovering how lucrative the business was, court records show, Swaso became a call girl, with a brief stint in porn films.

In court today, Swaso, 25, said that her current life in Florida is vastly different. She now works at a chicken wing restaurant and is studying to earn an adult high school diploma. She’s also around “normal” young people now, she said, who have educations and come from good families.

“I’ve always been around people who were in the sex industry, and now I’m around girls and guys who are normal …. And for that first time I see that’s possible for me,” she said.

Tarnow said that he believes her and wished her luck.

“I don’t think that there’s any question that you’re not going to give up your new goals, and go back to where you were,” Tarnow said. “I believe you when you say you’ve found hope.”

He later added: “I hope I’ll never see you again.”

A tearful Swaso left the courtroom with a supporter, saying nothing to reporters.

Swaso was the first person sentenced in the massive prostitution bust, in which four people were indicted last summer — including Gregory Carr, the alleged ringleader. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 12. He is facing 21-27 months in prison, although his lawyer is seeking probation.

Carr ran the escort service with his now ex-wife, Laurie Carr, who pleaded guilty in October to helping run the agency and is cooperating with authorities. She is awaiting sentencing.

Another woman, Michelle Matarazzo, who handled travel plans for the call girls, also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
