Porn Valley- Desiree Devine advertises herself as a BBW [Big Beautiful Woman].
And upon meeting Ms. Devine, you realize this is complete truth in advertising. Devine, who’s been in the business about a year, also has a huge fan base which she was hoping would come out to meet her at Adultcon this weekend.
But that won’t happen. I’ve read the contract. Adultcon doesn’t want performers like Devine. And they don’t want transsexuals, and it’s spelled out in black and white in papers Devine was later given.
But Devine didn’t find any of this out until after she had completed forms and sent money in for her booth last week. After she had submitted the necessary paperwork, Devine was then contacted by Adultcon and told the registration was complete but to submit additional non-nude photos.
After she had done so, Adultcon’s president Brad Clark told her, via e-mail, sorry, we’re giving you your money back and cited the perceived discriminatory reasons why.
Clark says the following: “I regret to inform you, per our policy, we reserve the right to deny space to any person who is, in our opinion, disproportionate in weight in relation to to their height. As such we must deny your request to have booth space at Adultcon.”
Clark also adds that Devine, though, is still welcome to attend as a fan on a freebie to claim a refund.
Devine, in turn, sent back a response and said she was offended by Adultcon’s attitude and wanted to know where such a policy is stated. She was referred to page 2 of the contract.
The contract goes on to state that talent is defined as “any non-transsexual individual participating in any legal form of sexual activity, posing topless or nude in photos or video or performing in adult movies…”
Today, Devine retained the services of attorney Michael Fattorosi, www.adultbizlaw.com. Fattorosi wouldn’t comment on the situation other than to say that Adultcon’s decision to exclude these performers was a violation of the Unruh Civil Rights Act and that he intended to vigorously pursue legal action against Adultcon, and, if needs be, the LA Convention Center.
Devine was going to take a booth along with Subrina Love who had also sent in her pictures. Two other performers, Farrah Fox and Chocolate Nights were going to take a booth as well.
“We were coming out to represent the BBW community, but Brad Clark told us they had a right to deny anyone based, in their opinion, if they are not height/weight proportionate,” says Devine.
“Because we weren’t, in their opinion, he decided he was going to deny our booth after we had already gotten swag and T-shirts for the event. We had posters made up and everything designed in the way of graphics. We had put a lot of time and money into this event, hopefully to make money from it. This is an event for the fans, and we thought it would be a good place for our fans to come.”
Devine expected that she’d have fans from as far away as San Diego and the Bay area to come out meet her.
“I was excited to be involved in it,” Devine continues, noting that she and Love were also collaborating to form a company called BBW Honies and were going to use Adultcon to promote it.
“But to get this response was very upsetting,” she adds. “We were looking forward to pioneering on behalf of the BBW community.”
Devine’s appeared in movies, on the web and in magazines such as Plumpers, Score group; she’s shot movies for Evasive Angles, Heatwave and Redlight District, and has worked a lot for Sinsational Video out of Florida and Hardcore Modeling out of Vegas.
“We work for people all around the United States,” states Devine. “Plus West Coast Productions is starting a line and Vivid is starting a Plus Size line. There’s all kinds of stuff.”
Devine said she considered Adultcon because she always looks for venues where she can interact with fans. Last January, as someone brand new to the biz, Devine went to AEE and was really surprised at the response she had gotten. Although she wasn’t signing for anyone, she got a lot of requests for pictures.
“They don’t even know who you are, but they’re taking pictures,” she laughs. “It was very exciting and the public is very supportive of Plus Size girls.”
While Adultcon seems to be adopting a take it or leave it approach, Devine says AEE has shown a lot of enthusiasm and that she and Love will continue to work hard to pioneer the genre.
“But this is a very unfortunate thing that occurred,” she says. “It’s less disappointing for me than it is for the other girls. I have other opportunities. AEE and LA Erotica is coming up. So there are more things coming up but they also cost more. For this event, which isn’t expensive to attend, it makes a way for a lot of girls to participate. And who doesn’t want to make extra money with the holidays coming up?”
According to Devine it was $200 for the booth plus something like $150 for the electricity. Devine also notes, as everyone else discovers, there are ups and extras.
Subrina Love, who’s been in the business about two years and has also worked for companies like Evasive Angles, Channel 69, Red Light, Heatwave and Black Magic, said she sent her photos in and within 30 minutes got a reply from Clark similar to Devine’s.
“I’m very disappointed not to be able to be there for my fans,” Love adds, indicating that this would have been her first trade show.
“So far I’ve been in the background but this was my time to come out, meet my fans and take photos with them. I’m also disappointed.”
“I’ve worked for some prestigious companies and I know my fans have been waiting to meet me in person. This was a really big deal to me.”
