from www.rvanews.com – Former Club Velvet owner, Sam Moore, was sentenced this afternoon to 6.5 years in prison and ordered to pay $250,000 in fines. Moore was convicted of tax evasion, with the action brought against him by federal prosecutors. Charges stemmed from a 2008 raid on the now defunct Club Velvet strip club. Moore was convicted in February of this year.

If Moore ever desired anonymity in Richmond, his decisions floundered such wishes. His former strip club in Shockoe Bottom featured an outré painting of Princess Diana on the club’s exterior for many years. In July of 2008, Moore served 30 days in jail for having sex with a minor and videotaping sex with an adult. He further ensconced himself in local notoriety when he allowed a depiction of President Obama as Batman’s famed villain the Joker to be painted on the club’s exterior. Underneath the image, which some thought was racist because of the white makeup to make the President look like the character, was the word socialism.

It is unknown if Moore’s attorneys will appeal the decision.
