NEWPORT NEWS, Va. from www.wtkr.com – Former Virginia Tech football star Maurice DeShazo was among fifteen men charged Friday with soliciting prostitution following a Newport News police sting.
DeShazo, who started at quarterback in the 1993 Independence Bowl and the 1994 Gator Bowl, was inducted into the Virginia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. He was one of 15 men charged with soliciting prostitituion. DeShazo was also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The operation targeted men soliciting prostitution through an Internet website. Police said an advertisement was placed on a website where the men were able to solicit and arrange to meet who they believed to be prostitutes. The men agreed to meet with the prostitutes at a local hotel and once they arrived and contacted the prostitute police would detain and charge them soliciting prostitution.
The sting was conducted as part of the Cook County, Ill. Sheriff’s Office National Day of Johns Arrests.
