John Lyons writes on www.dvdmaniacs.com: Saturday Night Live just made a couple of digs at [Gerard] Damiano, www.xxxxdeepthroat.com in “honor” of his death.
The routine went something link this:
Gerard Damiano, director of Deep Throat, has died. Deep Throat, that was a really well directed movie. [laugh sign flashes]
Damiano requested that he be buried a few feet deeper than normal. [laugh sign flashes]
I’m pretty sure I’m making a bigger deal out of this than I should, but how damn rude to make light and humorous someone’s death and to make fun of them in the process.
I’d be curious if SNL took the same low rout when Heath Ledger or Reagen died.
Also, I don’t get the second joke. Maybe I’m out of touch with modern humor but, huh?
Akos E. Udvari writes:HI !!!!!!!
Geez, I don’t really get the first joke: For its budget, its time and its circumstances DEEP THROAT in deed WAS a well directed movie, you fuckers !
The second joke is a very lame one because it only ‘plays’ with the title. DEEP and DEEPER: DEEP THROAT = DEEP and Damiano’s grave = DEEPER. Modern humor, you are right, it hasn’t to be DEEP, you know ? Hahaha.
But hey, it is just a smut director, who cares ? I am certain that they at SNL believe that Damiano ONLY made DEEP THROAT and nothing else and I am also sure that they never ever saw DEEP THROAT.
If they had seen MEMORIES WITHIN MISS AGGIE or THE STORY OF JOANNA they would have known how bad and dull their jokes are.
Anyway……
Rest in Peace, Mr. Damiano.
(I think he had a good and long life and left an excellent leagacy to film history)
